Hamdard Foundation Bangladesh supports communities through scholarships, disaster relief, healthcare access, and social development programs that improve quality of life nationwide.
Observance of National Days
Hamdard Bangladesh observe all national days with due respect. Hamdard observes a particular national day with philanthropic activities such as offering free medical camp and distribution of free Rooh Afza drinks from all possible Hamdard Clinics. Dua Mahfil is also organized in the Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 17 March and the National Mourning Day on 15 August every year. Other national days such as the International Mother Language Day, the Independence Day, and the Victory Day are also observed with due respect and dignity. The educational institutions of Hamdard duly remember the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Language Martyrs, and the National Heroes of Liberation War. They arrange discussion programs to make students aware of the historic importance of these days.
Aid during Natural Disaster
Bangladesh is a land of natural calamity and disaster. Floods, Cyclone, Tidal Surge, River Erosion, and seasonal disaster like drought, cold wave, heavy rainfall, land slide, etc. are the common major natural disasters of Bangladesh. Hamdard Bangladesh always stands beside the people of the Disaster prone areas mainly with food and medicine support. Hamdard Foundation has so far organized free medical camps and distributed relief materials like food and clothing during the major calamities in disaster prone areas. Every year, a huge number of people become homeless due to river erosion. The Foundation has built some temporary shelter houses for homeless people providing tin-shed accommodation at North Channel, Faridpur in January 2009. During winter season many needy and helpless people die of cold wave. The Foundation has provided blanket, food support, and free necessary medicine aid to the people of those areas. Thus, Hamdard works as a front liner in every natural disaster and pandemic situation of the country.
Distribution of Free Iftar
Philanthropy is an important part of religion. As per the philosophy of Islam, the Ramadan is one of the best month for philanthropy. So, if anyone offers something to a poor person during this holy month, it will be rewarded back to him by Allah several times more. As Waqf organization, Hamdard arranges free Ifter distribution program during the month of Ramadan every year.
Usually, the traffic of Dhaka City during the month of Ramadan is very heavy and unpredictable. A huge number of people are stuck in the streets just before and during Ifter time due to heavy traffic jam. The volunteers of Hamdard try to reach them with a packet of food item as well as a sealed glass of Rooh Afza sharbat. This program is organized in the busiest streets of Dhaka City having bad traffic jam. The program continues from the beginning to the end of Ramadan. The students of Hamdard Public College also participate the program on some particular days. Hamdard provides more than 2, 00,000 (two Lac) packets of Ifter and Rooh Afza drinks around the City during Ramadan. Hamdard believes that the holy Ramadan is special blessing from Allah. This month teaches us to feel the pain of the needy and helpless people, and makes us involve to relieve their pains by helping them.
Grants & Donations
Hamdard Bangladesh is a philanthropic Waqf organization. A portion of the profit of Hamdard Bangladesh is spent for philanthropic activities through Hamdard Foundation Bangladesh. Hamdard Bangladesh believes that participation in any kind of aid and support to national disaster is a virtuous job. From this point of view, Hamdard has donated reasonable amount of grants in Prime Minister’s Office in different disastrous situation and pandemic. It is a great pleasure on the part of Hamdard to contribute during the fire incident of Nimtoli in Dhaka, and other natural calamities like Sidor, Aila, and Covid-19, etc. Hamdard Bangladesh contributes a certain percentage of the profit every year to the Waqf Administration of Bangladesh. Hamdard is one of the highest contributors as a Waqf Organization in the country.
Distribution of Free Rooh Afza during Ramadan
Sharbat Rooh Afza is a unique formulation prepared of time-befitting natural nutritive fruits extract by Hamdard which is acceptable as delicious, refreshing, and thirst relieving elixir to all. The Founder of Hamdard, Hakim Abdul Majeed invented this formula by using his utmost effort, far-reaching thinking, and intellectual skills in 1907. The SAVEUR, the renowned journal of USA, declared Rooh Afza as “Heavenly Elixir” in 2007. Now a days, Rooh Afza is the most famous drink and important part of Ifter to the people of Bangladesh.
Every year Hamdard Bangladesh distributes a huge quantity of free Rooh Afza to different Orphanages, Mosques, Old homes, Madrasahs, and many other charitable organizations of the country. This trend was started by Dr. Hakim Md. Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan, and it gradually expanded each year. Millions of needy and helpless people are benefitted from this humanitarian activity during Ramadan.
