Hamdard University Bangladesh
From Dream to Reality
Quality education at minimum cost to build a nation of simple and classic minds.
The Philosophy
Hamdard University Bangladesh was the dream of Dr. Hakim Md. Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan that had been nourished in his heart for a long time. The Founder’s vision was to ensure quality education at a minimum cost to build a nation of simple and classic mind. The collective efforts became true with the establishment of Hamdard University Bangladesh at last.
All over Support
During the establishment of HUB, Dr. Harun’s colleagues and employees provide fulltime support to fulfill his dream. It is equally important to acknowledge that to establish the University, Hamdard has received a great support and cooperation from the University Grants Commission (UGC) Bangladesh, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Waqf Administration, Prime Minister’s Secretariat and many others. The Hamdard family thankfully recognizes the contributions, help and supports of all members of the Board of Trustees of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh, the Executive Committee of Hamdard Foundation Bangladesh, the Board of Trustees of Hamdard University Bangladesh, and all Directors and employees of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh.
The Dream Turned to Reality
Being approved by UGC and the Government of Bangladesh on 14 March 2012, Hamdard University Bangladesh has launched its first academic semester with the first batch of students of various departments on 29 November 2012 in a temporary campus located at Newtown, Sonargaon, Narayanganj on the western side of the river Meghna adjacent to Meghna Bridge toll plaza that continued till 2015. But when it became inadequate for accommodating the usual flow of students, the University has built a two-storied metal-structured (prefabricated) premise measuring about 50,000 square feet on its own land at Gazaria, Munshiganj.
The Permanent Campus
The University was shifted to the new permanent campus in December 2015 with 09 (nine) batches of students. At present, the number of continuing students is over 1,500 in 10 (Ten) departments under 05 (five) faculties: Arts & Social Sciences; Business Administration; Science, Engineering & Technology; Unani & Ayurvedic Medicine, and Health Sciences. The progress of this tertiary institution is on-going and students are being admitted twice a year corresponding to the bi-semester system of education. However, the Faculty of Unani & Ayurvedic Medicine (FUAM) enrolls students once a year corresponding to yearly-professional system.
Simultaneously, Hamdard University Bangladesh has built a Cafeteria of 4,000 square feet on the southern edge of the main building. Adjacent to the Cafeteria, a three-storied pre-fabricated metal-structured building (40,000 square feet) has been structured in 2018 to house the Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine. A 60-bedded temporary combined (Unani, Ayurvedic, and Allopathic) hospital has been housed in ground floor of this building. The hospital provides the internship support to the students of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine. The first floor of the building includes academic zone of the faculty and a “Scholar House” for the senior faculty members both from home and abroad. However, the entire second floor is now used as Girls’ Hostel.
Now all activities of Hamdard University Bangladesh are operational in its permanent campus. To meet the emerging demands, the University is planning to start its phase-wise construction works shortly as per the Master Plan. In this regard, Hamdard visualizes a world class university with the latest research facilities and logistics for higher education to implement its slogan ‘In Pursuit of Knowledge.’
The campus area of Hamdard University Bangladesh is so far the largest one among the existing private universities in Bangladesh. Currently, the two-storied building (eastern and western wings) is serving the purpose of all academic and administrative needs of the University except FUAM. Since the FUAM has moved to the new building, it has accommodated four other faculties: Arts and Social Sciences; Business Administration; Science, Engineering & Technology; and Health Sciences. Recently the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare instructed to reform the Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine (FUAM) as a separate Institute of a Public University. Accordingly, now it has been renamed as Hamdard Institute of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine that has already started functioning as an Institute of Dhaka University.
