The Magical Birth of HPC
“The ground where man stumbles, there he remains stable.”
It was the month of May 2010 when Dr. Hakim Md. Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan, the visionary Founder of Hamdard Public College, along with the directors of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh, visited a building with the intention of starting the journey of Hamdard University Bangladesh.
During the visit, Dr. Harun slipped and fell on the mossy yard of the building. Standing back up, he remarked, “As I fall down on this ground, the campus will be started from here.”
Although the University Grants Commission (UGC) did not permit the establishment of a private university campus within Dhaka city, Dr. Harun remained determined to promote education and knowledge.
Thus, on 13th June 2010, Hamdard Public College was born on the very ground where that symbolic moment took place — a true magical beginning.
Founder’s Brainchild
Dr. Hakim Md. Yousuf Harun Bhuiyan realized the scarcity of honest, competent, and skilled individuals despite thousands of graduates being produced each year. His vision was to build a generation of learners equipped with knowledge, employability, and a sense of moral responsibility.
He observed that many students fail to pursue higher education due to the rising costs and dependence on private tuition. Determined to make education accessible, Dr. Harun launched a noble initiative to relieve guardians from the burden of private tuition and to ensure opportunities for underprivileged but talented students.
Through newspapers, television, and social media, he identified bright students in need and personally reached out to their families, offering full educational support. As a result, many students received free education and annual merit-based scholarships at Hamdard Public College.
With the tireless efforts of the Founder and the unwavering support of the Board of Directors of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh, the College has grown into a unique educational institution within a decade.
Hamdard Public College stands for more than just academic excellence — it nurtures values of humanity, equality, social justice, and fosters the spirit of the Liberation War among students.
