Hamdard Institute of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine

Hamdard University Bangladesh began offering the Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) and Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) programs in 2014, under the Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine (FUAM), approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Institutional Reform and New Affiliation

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare directed the reform of the Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine (FUAM) into a separate institute of a public university.
Accordingly, it has been renamed as the Hamdard Institute of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine (HIUAM), which has already started functioning as an Institute of the University of Dhaka, under its Medical Faculty.

Through the approval of the Deans Committee, the University of Dhaka has included the BUMS, BAMS, and BHMS programs in the Medical Faculty from the 2022–2023 academic session.

National Affiliation and Future Scope

As a result of this reform, all undergraduate programs of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine in Bangladesh will now be affiliated with the Medical Faculty of a public university, ensuring greater academic standardization and national recognition.
